Digital Forensics

Digital Forensics

Digital forensics is the process of obtaining electronic evidence from electronic media and preserving that evidence for admissibility in court. Using proven techniques along with best-in-class tools, Aptegra can safely gather and analyze all data on a computer system, tablet, or smartphone.

This process often includes:
  • Acquiring a forensically sound image of the digital media (e.g., smartphone, computer, external drive) to prevent evidence spoliation
  • Recovering deleted messages, documents, and images
  • Searching messages, files, and web history according to client-specified criteria
  • Evaluating metadata, to find out when files were created, modified, accessed, or deleted
  • Examining the Windows Registry or other Operating System artifacts such as shortcuts and event logs
While each case is unique, Aptegra can provide attorneys with a wide variety of digital forensic services such as electronic discovery, electronic data acquisition, and evidence collection.

Electronic evidence collection from smartphones, computers, and other digital devices is of the utmost importance to the digital forensic investigator. However, so is the dedication to making the results of computer examinations understandable to both technical and non-technical people. We are not just computer forensic examiners – we are translators of digital information. It is essential that once evidence is extracted, a judge, jury, opposing counsel, and you completely understand the evidence obtained from the digital forensic examination – our expert witness testimony is clear, concise, and professional.

Digital forensics is a demanding field, requiring specialized hardware, software, and expertise. Aptegra founder H. Scott Tucker is a Certified Cyber Forensics Professional and a computer industry veteran who has worked with major firms such as IBM, Microsoft, Symantec, Hewlett-Packard, and Canon, among others.
